Give me a view!
One family’s new house wasn’t living up to it’s potential. Sam and the team came up with an innovative solution and created a light-filled, gloriously warm space.
When we bought our house, we fell in love. The house was brand new, stylish, and everything we dreamed of one day owning.
The downstairs lounge was a large space, but dark. This window was the only area letting light in to the room. As a result, the room was dark, underutilized, poorly accessible and a glorified hallway. We thought enhancing it would be far too big of a job, and one that would require building consent.
Sam came around, had a look, and solved our problem. The existing lintel meant that we could draw the window all the way down and create enormous functionality with relative ease.

Retrofitting a new sliding door was an ingenious solution. This approach preserved the home's structural integrity but provided a huge benefit in terms of light, views, and livability.
Scaffolding arrived the day before the scheduled installation,Tahi and Sam arrived when they said they would and made cutting a hole in the house wall a far less daunting prospect.
At one stage of the retrofit, the base of the window had a gap between frame and floor, simply because of the way the existing floor level sat. That meant we would have a white border on the floor and a visible underneath. Rather than just saying “that’s the way it is”, Tahi took real pride in finding a bespoke solution. He used leftover timber flooring to create a bespoke solution that looks stunning.
This stage of installation only took a day, and Sam had a painter lined up to take care of the cosmetic paint and plaster afterwards. The subcontractors were all supremely well-coordinated and professional.
What a result.
The result is simply stunning. The first day after installation we sat in our lounge downstairs for four hours. Our son played happily and we drank coffee in the morning sunshine - the sunshine that had never entered the room before.
Sam and the crew handled everything and did an incredible job. It was stress-free, seamless, and has transformed the way we live. Our home feels larger. We joke that the retrofit sliding door is like getting a home extension without making the house any bigger. Glassons Glass exceeded our expectations and blew us away with the quality of their work.
